KUALA TERENGGANU: The achievements of the Transforming English in Terengganu (Trenglish) programme shone through its latest Mega Trenglish Camp (MTC), which concluded on Saturday.
The camp, held from Nov 8 to 10 at Primula Hotel Kuala Terengganu, drew 240 Form Three and Form Four students from 40 Trenglish schools.
The Trenglish programme, which has been running since 2014, is a collaboration between the Terengganu government, Terengganu Foundation, Terengganu state Education Department and Petronas.
It aims to produce Terengganu students who are proficient in English.
Various activities were held at the MTC such as sharing sessions with prominent figures, team-building, debates, Trexplorace, speech choir competition and The Star’s Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) session.
In his speech, Terengganu state secretary Datuk A Rahman Yahya said: “If you can speak English, you can go anywhere.”
“Today, we have 240 students with us. Hopefully, the numbers will keep increasing, as how it has year after year,” he said.
Petronas contributes about RM600,000 each year for the sponsorship of The Star’s NiE pullout, T-HELP activity allowances, merchandise and the Trenglish magazine. - The Star
